The school opened as Wonderland Pre-Primary School on 22nd January 1977. In January 2013 the school's status changed to a Preparatory School and we proudly opened the first Grade 1 classes. Each year this class has promoted into the next grade. In 2019 the primary school was completed when we welcomed our first Grade 7 class.
In January 2017 the school's status was changed to a Primary School. The Eastern Cape Department of Education officially changed the name of the school to Oceanview Primary in August 2018.

The school provides an up-do-date and relevant programme to prepare children for Grade One. The programme takes into account the individual needs of every child in a secure, healthy and disciplined environment. Although it is less formal, it is carefully structured to equip children to face future demands of formal education. This early, gentle introduction to school is highly beneficial.
These classes provide our six year olds with the final preparations for "Big School". A more formal approach provides an easy transition into Grade One.
Appropriate intellectual and creative stimulation takes place whilst essential concentration skills are developed.
Our academic vision is to educate the whole child and to provide a quality and meaningful education to each learner through a supportive environment; and to remain sensitive to the needs and capabilities of each pupil i.e. bearing in mind that each child is unique.
The curriculum followed by Oceanview Primary School is CAPS compliant. The material is chosen to challenge learners to extend knowledge and apply information and skills gained, in order to work productively. The concept of self-learning begins in the lower grades and increases incrementally into the higher grades. This is invaluable for assisting learners to take responsibility for their own learning. Continious assessment is practised. The curriculum is critically and continually refined in order to ensure academic excellence. Parents are kept informed of their child's progress through parent teacher meetings and school reports.
At Oceanview Primary, we encourage each child to participate in our sport programme. Emphasis is placed on sporting activities as a way of encouraging social interaction, co-operation, sharing & teamwork. The main purpose of sport at Oceanview Primary School is to:
* Provide each individual learner with the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. While healthy competition is encouraged,
enjoyment of the game remains paramount.
* Sustain a long-term interest in physical activity and a healthy
lifestyle, by improving fitness levels and fundamental skills.
* Encourage learners to build a healthy self-esteem & gain different
life skills; such as leadership, co-operation & communication. This
will assist in the development of positive values & character.
Oceanview Primary School provides a unique learning experience through a selection of cultural activities.
The school provides a balanced, all-encompassing education by integrating the academic with arts and culture.
All learners are encouraged to participate in Music (percussion band, guitar and recorder), Drama, Chess, Dance or Art.
